The Beeches Prospective Resident FAQs
What safety measures are in place for residents?
The comfort and safety of all members are of paramount importance to us. All residences are access-controlled with 24-hour onsite security.
Is there an age requirement for residency?
The minimum age requirement for a nursing home varies based on the facility, but most only admit residents aged 62+. Moreover, there are laws and regulations governing nursing home admission, so it’s crucial to determine if this type of care is needed
May couples live together in a residence?
Yes, spouses can live together in some assisted living facilities. Each one determines if they allow or do not allow, so always check ahead of time. However, having your parents bunk together in an assisted living room. Many couples, especially as they get older, rely on one another for companionship and support.
Are pets permitted in assisted living residences?
Yes, but most assisted living communities have requirements and some restrictions. At an SLR community, our Pet Agreement lays out all the details. The most important requirements are that your dog or cat must be licensed, neutered/spayed, and have up-to-date vaccinations.
What types of floor plans are available?
There are four basic types of floor plans: open floor plans, closed floor plans, modular floor plans, and hybrid floor plans. Open floor plans are perfect for families who want to be able to interact with each other while they are cooking or relaxing in the living room.
What type of memory care will residents receive?
Various types of care facilities can support people with Alzheimer’s disease. Nursing homes are suitable for people who need specialized, ongoing care from medical professionals. However, a nursing facility may not be the right option for every person or every stage of the disease.
How will I know if memory care is right for my loved one?
Here are some of the signs it may be time to consider memory care: Your loved one has trouble with hygiene and basic self-care. Your loved one is no longer able to leave the home due to unpredictable behavior. Your loved one has become increasingly agitated or aggressive due to dementia.
How much are care fees?
For a breakdown of our fees, please refer to the Care Fee section of our website.
What is included in your care fees?
Our care fees include:
- Cost of care
- Room accommodation
- All meals and refreshments
- Housekeeping and laundry services
- All organised activities, exercises, and entertainment
Please note that our care fees do not encompass any therapeutic services, including chiropody, dentistry, audiology, hairdressing, etc. Our fees do not cover taxi service or other costs associated with staff accompanying residents to the hospital, doctor’s office, or other professional appointments. Additional room toiletries and amenities can be purchased at an extra cost that will always be disclosed in advance.
Do you accept Social Services Care Rates?
While we primarily cater to privately self-funded residents, we can also accept funding from local authorities, provided you are able to top up by paying the difference between the social service rates and our care fees. We always recommend that prospective residents seek independent financial consultation to explore different options and determine the best use of their funds.
How often do you increase your care fees?
We review our fee annually. Any fee increase will reflect inflation rates, increases in minimum wage and living expenses, along with third-party supplier costs.
Can I have a trial period at The Beeches?
The Beeches offers Respite Care service option. This short-term stay is a great way for prospective residents to test whether The Beeches is the right environment for them in the long term. Residents can try respite care for a few weeks. Then, even if they move in on a permanent basis, they will still be given a 1 month trial period to decide if The Beeches is right for them. During the 1 month trial period, with the approval of their family representative, a resident can depart on short notice with no additional charges. Should a resident decide to leave after the trial period, we require 1 month’s notice.
Do visitors need to make an appointment to visit me?
No prior appointment is necessary. Family and friends are always welcome at The Beeches. Visitors often drop by without notice. We want residents to understand that The Beeches is their home. As such, we expect people to come and spend time with their loved ones and stay as long as they wish.
What is the staff-to-resident ratio?
We use a care management system and capacity tools to assess whether we are well-staffed to provide the highest quality of care and meet residents’ needs. Because residents may require additional staff support under certain circumstances, we are able to adjust our care staff ratio accordingly.
Can I leave the care home if I change my mind?
Yes, you may terminate your residency contract without notice at any time during the first month. After the trial period, either you or The Beeches can terminate the agreement by giving one month’s prior notice. In the event that a resident’s needs have changed and The Beeches is unable to meet those needs, the agreement may be terminated without advance notice. Both sides can terminate the agreement on 14 days’ notice for any material breach which is not remedied within a reasonable timeframe.
Do the care fees cease immediately on death?
The charges will cease to apply when the room is cleared and all belongings are removed.
Will I have access to my own GP?
We normally register our residents with the GP surgery close to The Beeches. However, if a resident wishes to remain with their current GP, we will do our best to accommodate and will check with your current GP to see that they would agree to this.
Can I bring in my pet?
We understand the important benefits of maintaining relationships with pets, and therefore allow for pet visits when the pet is accompanied by friends or family. We also organise regular pet therapy sessions. However, as The Beeches is a small care home, we are not able to allow pets to live in the home on a permanent basis.
Can I bring my own furniture and other belongings?
Our rooms are fully furnished; however, residents may bring their favourite pieces of furniture and other belongings to create a more personalised, home-to-home experience for themselves.
What is CHC, and does The Beeches accept CHC funding?
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is the name given to a package of care that is arranged and funded solely by the NHS for people who are not in hospital but have complex ongoing healthcare needs. This means that the full cost of your care is funded by the payment made by the NHS of £1353 per week. While The Beeches caters primarily to privately funded residents, we do try to keep some rooms available for the CHC-funded residents.
What type of memory care will residents receive?
Various types of care facilities can support people with Alzheimer’s disease. Nursing homes are suitable for people who need specialized, ongoing care from medical professionals. However, a nursing facility may not be the right option for every person or every stage of the disease.
What is FNC, and does The Beeches accept FNC?
FNC or Funded Nursing Care (FNC) is a weekly, non-means-tested NHS contribution of £267.68 (standard rate) paid directly to nursing homes for residents who require registered nursing care. It is available for those not qualifying for full Continuing Healthcare (CHC) but needing nursing support. On admission, we will apply for FNC for you, and this may be used by you to offset your weekly fees.
Do you accept residents with dementia or Alzheimer's?
We do accept residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s, provided their primary needs are nursing care. For specialist dementia care, we may refer you to our sister home, Highgrove House, which is specialised in dementia and is situated just two minutes away from The Beeches.
